It made me reflect and value life more.

沖縄戦、その始まりから終わりまでを見るツアー

First of all, I would like to thank you for the wonderful experience you gave us in Okinawa. Those two days spent going to the places where actual events of the war occurred was an eyeopener and a life changing experience for me. It made me reflect and value life more. The idea that the war happened recently and being born a few years later would have been the difference of going through experiences that no human being should go through was shocking. Especially what the women, the children and what the civilian went through.
This was the first history of Japan I ever learned. In a way, it made me proud to be a Japanese seeing how the Japanese fought in that circumstance. It made everything I am going through now seem like nothing. The biggest lesson I learned was that with a little confidence and knowledge to save lives. What’s more, is the long-lasting effects of war and how although it is over it still affects the lives of the people today, and we get distracted by other stuff and forget the important and valuable things such as the Okinawan war, this is reflected in the current political situation of Japan. I believe that this is a story that should be integrated into the Japanese education system as you said.
With all this in mind. Starting this October I have decided to start working for an organization called ICAN. ICAN is an organization that helps children in countries that have civil war such as the Philippines and Yemen. Listening and experiencing what happened in Okinawa has given me the confidence and the will to make a difference. With the knowledge, I gained I hope to be able to help as many people as I can and to pass on the knowledge gained from the tour to as many people as I can.
